Be The Real ____.

Son
Paris, fourteen, and Kingston, seven, are brothers from Los Angeles who are at that wonderful and awkward age where they have nothing in common.

Their dad is a somebody, but not a somebody they live with. They live with their mother and in their father’s famous shadow. They speak about him a lot, but what struck me about these two boys — beyond the high end labels and the celebrity name dropping that’s just a part of growing up in LA culture — is their utter humanness. For example, how many times have we seen banter like this between siblings? We can all relate to this relationship. I don’t even have siblings and I can relate to it.

Paris is a classic high school boy — witty, AirPods in, and clearly over it. Endlessly annoyed at his brother and obviously told he had to do this interview, he was still willing to be vulnerable and express his feelings. Kingston is a nice, curious kid — really excited about life and able to roll with the punches. For me, this dynamic is so familiar. Whether with my friends and their siblings growing up, kids at school, or in my neighborhood, the relationship between them feels incredibly organic and human. They don’t pose in front of the camera. They are themselves.

As in a classic American family, their mother seems to represent a place of acceptance in a world where they are constantly striving to not settle and be the best. Mom will love them no matter what and they know it. Through the good and the bad.
